The choir is scheduled to perform with double Grammy® award-winning artists, The Kings Singers, during their South African tour this February.
Renowned UJ Choir Master Renette Bouwer says: “When the opportunity arose to share the stage with The King’s Singers, it was a no-brainer. They are simply the best! I have been a fan of this group since a very young age and even still have a few records of them from those times.”
In addition to performing to capacity audiences and creating highly regarded and much-loved recordings, The King’s Singers share their artistry through numerous workshops and masterclasses around the world.
The University of Johannesburg’s young choristers will be honoured with a workshop session facilitated by the sextet, dubbed “the world champions of acapella singing”. The workshop session promises to be an inter-cultural extravaganza as the UJ Choir, in addition to learning Eric Whitacre’s ‘This Marriage’, will teach The King’s Singers a set of traditional songs from their African music repertoire.
The King’s Singers’ South African tour, presented by North-West University (NWU), will take place in Pretoria, Potchefstroom, Johannesburg, Bloemfontein, Cape Town and Stellenbosch between 9 and 16 February 2017. The UJ Choir will perform one song with them at the Linder Auditorium on 12 February.
